Serio leads Team USA into Paralympics basketball seminfinals

Steve Serio, who earned a degree in Kinesiology in the College of Applied Health Sciences, had 11 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists Wednesday to lead Team USA to a 52-45 win over Turkey to reach the semifinals of the wheelchair basketball tournament at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

Team USA will face Spain in the semifinals on Friday.

Brian Bell, also an Illini alum, was Team USA's high scorer with 18 points, while Illinois alum Ryan Neiswender added a rebound in limited action.

The 33-year-old Serio is in his fourth Paralympics—having competed for Team USA at the Paralympic Games in 2008, 2012 and 2016—and he won a bronze medal with Team USA in London and gold in Rio in 2016.
