RST Alum Returns as Advisor

RST E-News October 2021

head shot of Jason SchroederJason Schroeder, who completed his bachelor’s degree in RST in 2013 and his master’s degree in 2016, will be guiding undergraduate students in the department through their studies as the new academic advisor.

Jason has a long employment history with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, starting as a football equipment assistant in 2013. During his master’s program, he was an athletics development graduate assistant, participating in the cultivation and stewardship of more than 10,000 former student-athletes. He also provided tutoring and guidance to at-risk football student-athletes as an academic coach. After completing his master’s degree, he managed 30 academic coaches as the coordinator of the Fighting Illini academic coaching program and also served as a learning specialist for football, women’s golf, and volleyball, working closely with at-risk students and students with diagnosed learning disabilities.

For Jason, the academic advisor position in RST offered an opportunity to return “home.”

“As a two-time graduate, it was exciting for me to think about returning to Huff Hall,” he said. “Many of the same faculty and staff from when I was a student in RST many years ago are still here, which I think speaks volumes about the department and the College of Applied Health Sciences as a whole.”

Jason is RYT-200 certified in yoga, which he teaches at Amara Yoga and Arts in Urbana and Crunch Fitness in Champaign.
