The Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Clinic
Careers in Speech & Hearing Science are focused on making a difference in someone else's life. Because of this, we are excited to use what we learn in the classroom to serve our community.
Our clinics provide care for those in the Champaign-Urbana area and give our students hands-on practical experience.
State of Illinois Telepractice Variance
The state of Illinois has granted a temporary variance to allow SLP and audiology students to count telepractice hours even if the student and supervisor are not in the same room. See the details of the variance here.
Audiology Curbside Hearing Aid Programming/Repair Plan
Speech and Hearing Science has developed curbside drop off and pick up procedures for hearing aid clients. Find out about the curbside service here.
SHS Clinic to Offer Telepractice
Because of the current public health crisis, many health-related services deemed to be non-essential have been suspended. Unfortunately, this includes services offered by speech-language pathology and audiology clinics and practitioners. However, graduate students in the Department of Speech and Hearing Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign must accrue practice hours this summer in order to graduate on time and meet certification and licensing requirements of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
The state of Illinois has granted a temporary variance to allow our clinical faculty to supervise our speech-language pathology and audiology students remotely and to count telepractice hours toward their required clinical experience. This variance not only helps our students, but also enables the University of Illinois Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Clinic to meet the needs of individuals and families who find that the coronavirus pandemic has negatively impacted their ability to access services.
