Message From the Dean
Hello, AHS alumni, students, and friends, and Happy Homecoming!
This is an exciting time of the year, even though it looks a little different in 2020. I’m sorry we can’t be together partying at the AHS tailgate or cheering for the Fighting Illini in person. We can still have fun with Homecoming week activities, though. This year’s Homecoming theme—Stronger Together in Orange and Blue—unites us in spirit. As we listen to the Illini Sports radio network while the Fighting Illini go head to head with Iowa, we will be part of a vast network of Illinois alumni and fans who are sharing the same experience.
Having completed my undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Illinois, I have many fond memories of Homecoming and I suspect you do as well. It is a defining event of the fall semester. This year, we will cheer from afar due to our concern for your health and well-being. There will be a post COVID-19 world, however, and when that day arrives, we will have the biggest, noisiest, most celebratory Homecoming ever! It will include our distinguished alumni awards program, too, just like in previous years.
In the meantime, I invite you to follow the links below to submit a photo showing your Illini Homecoming Spirit, enter your budding artists into a coloring contest, and enjoy a virtual performance of Illinois Loyalty by the Marching Illini.

Photo Contest
Send in a selfie showing your best orange-and-blue Homecoming spirit, and you could be eligible to receive a fabulous prize! Five winners will be chosen randomly from submitted photos. Submit your photo here. Please submit your entries by the end of the day (midnight) Thursday, December 4th.
Coloring contest
The State Farm Center serves as the bun on a loaded tailgate burger that reflects the great diversity of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the College of Applied Health Sciences. Have your tiny Illini color the image for a chance to win a prize. Download the image here and, after coloring it in, submit a photo of it here. Five entries will be chosen at random to receive prizes! Please submit your entries by the end of the day (midnight) Thursday, December 4th.
Virtual Marching Illini performs Illinois Loyalty
Members of the Marching Illini and Fighting Illini Athletic Bands joined together from across the country to provide Illini Spirit for Illini Nation. Each student recorded their own musical part and then all of these audio and video files were mixed to create a virtual version of ILLINOIS LOYALTY! GO ILLINI!
Regarding our distinguished alumni
Due to health and safety concerns posed by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the College of Applied Health Sciences will recognize outstanding individuals with its Distinguished Alumni Award, Harold Scharper Award, and Young Alumni Award during Homecoming 2021. While we are truly saddened by the interruption in our alumni awards program, we are not only committed to ensuring the well-being of our AHS family but also to giving our outstanding awardees the celebration they deserve. Stay tuned for news of our 2021 recipients!
