Kinesiology

Tackle chronic disease. Champion fitness. Study the science of human movement and prepare for a career that improves lives.

Engagement

In the Kinesiology program at Illinois, we firmly believe that we cannot keep our skills and knowledge to ourselves. It is important to us that we share our work with those around us and engage our communities.

Below you will find a few ways that we bring this belief to life.

FitKids

Many children, particularly from minority populations, do not engage in the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Furthermore, parents working outside of the home creates a need for after-school childcare. FitKids is an after-school program that provides opportunities for children to have 60 minutes of physical activity per day and nutritional education.

Lifetime Fitness Program

The Lifetime Fitness Program provides exercise fitness programming for Champaign-Urbana residents ages 55 and over. Programs include group fitness, individual training, and aquatics. The program is directed by Kinesiology Professor Ken Wilund and staffed by Kinesiology graduate students. Undergraduate students also work in the program in order to develop fitness instructional skills.

Sports Fitness Progam

The program is a service to the Champaign and Urbana communities and provides opportunities for children to stay physically active in the summer months. The program is intended to not only provide active opportunities throughout the summer but to set children on a course for a healthy and active lifestyle. The program is staffed by Kinesiology graduate and undergraduate students.
